I had always thought the song "Working for the Weekend" by Loverboy was a 5 pm Friday, let's-make-the-most-of-the-next-two-days, anthem. But as it turns out the guys who wrote the song got their inspiration from seeing people putting their lives on hold while waiting for the next Saturday. The title was originally going to be "Waiting for the Weekend." They are actually saying "hey, it's a beautiful Wednesday afternoon where is everyone?" It's so easy to fall into a routine that is focused on just making it through the week. In my two month as a 9-5er I will admit that I have spent most of my free time either watching TV or getting ready for and stressing about tomorrow. Making plans to have fun during the week just seems too exhausting. For me this has a lot to do with poor time management. So while I continue to work on my schedule I will also continue to make the most of my weekends. This past weekend I got a chance to do two things I love - Spend time outdoors and spend time with family. On Saturday I drove over to Weedon Island Preserve to walk the Boy Scout Trail. Of all the parks in Pinellas County I have been to I would have to say that Weedon is my favorite. There are miles of amazing nature trails (including a kayak loop), lots of wildlife, and a great visitor center. Plus there is no entrance fee! Then on Sunday I tagged along with my aunt and uncle to the Twins vs. Rays baseball game. I think most people will agree that baseball is as much about the experience as it is about the game. For me that means eating Dippin' Dots ice cream while guessing the speed of each pitch. Our tickets were in prime foul ball territory and my uncle ended up with a ball hit by Joe Mauer. I will definitely be trying harder not to just work for the weekend but as far as weekends go this was one of the better ones.

After a few rough months struggling to find a job and place to live I finally have my feet somewhat underneath me. It has been a challenge trying to find the right balance between work, play, and sleep. I feel like I have almost figured out a daily schedule that will allow me to be productive while also avoiding burnout, and that’s where this blog comes in. The main idea behind this page is to force myself to spend more time away from my 24-foot travel trailer (more on that in the future) and more time enjoying daily life. So diving right into things I wanted to share a few photos I took last weekend at the Florida Botanical Gardens. I figured the best course of action for a Sunday afternoon would be to wander for a few hours and see how far I got. The welcome center is unfortunately closed on weekends but the grounds themselves are still open. In two hours I only managed to see about 1/3 of the gardens and didn’t even make it to the heritage village. My slow pace may have been because I was listening to Enya and stopping every ten seconds to take photos, but I'm pretty sure those are both requirements when exploring beautiful gardens like these. I am planning on writing a more in-depth review after I get a chance to see more of the property. I had hoped to write more for my first blog post but I let time slip away from me, again. If you have any tips or tricks for staying focused I would love to hear from you. Thanks for tagging along and see you all next time!
